What Are Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of dental ceramic bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They change the shape, color, size, and symmetry of your smile without altering the tooth underneath more than necessary.

What makes veneers different from whitening or bonding is permanence and precision. They are custom-fabricated by an elite ceramist, matched to the specific translucency and shade of your natural teeth, and designed to look like they belong there. Not like veneers. Like your teeth, but the version of them you always wanted.

At Livewell, veneers are never an impulse treatment. Every case starts with a full evaluation of your bite, your tooth structure, and your facial proportions to make sure the result holds up functionally as well as aesthetically.

Because Every Smile Tells a Story

You are not here because your teeth are broken. You are here because your smile does not feel like you.
Patient consultation at Livewell Dental, Fairfax Station, VA
You are here because you have lived with something small for a long time. A chip you learned to hide. A shade you never loved. Teeth that look fine to everyone else but feel wrong to you every time you see a photo. Maybe your past dental work left you with restorations that never quite matched. Maybe you have been comparing your smile to the one you had ten years ago.
Veneers are not just about aesthetics. They are about feeling comfortable in your own face again. At Livewell, the goal is never a set of teeth that looks like it came from a catalog. It is a smile that fits your features, matches your personality, and still looks like you, just the best version of it.
Your veneers are not rushed or treated like a mass-production case. They are planned with the same attention to detail we bring to complex restorative work, because your smile deserves careful planning.

Are You the Right Candidate for Veneers?

Veneers are the right fit for people who want a lasting change. Dr. Kim will tell you honestly if you are one of them.
Staining whitening cannot fix, including intrinsic discoloration, old bonding that has yellowed, or restorations that no longer match.
Small chips, worn edges, or uneven tooth shapes that affect the look of your smile.
Slight misalignment, short teeth, or minor spacing where orthodontics feels like more than you want.
Teeth that are healthy enough for veneers and supported by stable gums and a balanced bite.

Why Our Veneers Don’t Look Like “Veneers”

01

Crafted with Experienced Ceramists

Dr. Kim works closely with skilled ceramists so each veneer is shaped, shaded, and textured to blend naturally with your smile.

02

Designed for longevity

Veneers are planned around your bite and tooth structure so functional issues are not overlooked.

03

No Template Smile Design

Your veneers are designed around your facial features, tooth shape, smile line, and goals — not a standard catalog look.

Veneers, Done the Livewell Way

It is more than putting porcelain on teeth. It is a process designed for lasting function and beauty.
1
Discovery & Design
Your first visit is not about picking a shade from a chart. Dr. Kim evaluates your oral health, bite, tooth structure, and facial proportions. He asks what you want your result to look like and listens carefully. This conversation shapes everything that follows. No two design plans are identical because no two patients are.
2
Master-Crafted Porcelain
Your case is created with an experienced ceramist using the specifications Dr. Kim builds around your face, bite, and anatomy. Each veneer is crafted to match the texture, translucency, and depth of natural enamel. This is not a generic lab order. It is a detailed collaboration.
3
Precision Prep
When preparation is needed, Dr. Kim removes only the minimum amount of tooth structure required for the veneer to bond correctly and sit flush with your gumline. When a no-prep approach is appropriate, nothing is removed at all. Either way, the goal is to preserve as much natural tooth as possible.
4
Functional Harmony
This step helps reduce unnecessary stress on the veneers and supports a longer-lasting result.
5
Finishing Touches That Belong
The goal is a smile that looks natural enough to feel like it has always belonged to you.

No-Prep or Traditional Veneers?

Not every case is the same. Dr. Kim will recommend the right approach for your teeth, your goals, and your anatomy during your consultation.

Traditional Veneers
What it involvesVeneers bonded directly to the tooth surface with little to no enamel removalA controlled amount of enamel is reduced to create space for the veneer to sit flush and bond correctly
Is it reversible? In most cases, yes. Because minimal or no tooth structure is altered, removal is possibleNo. Once enamel is removed it does not grow back, making this a permanent commitment
Who it suits bestPatients with healthy enamel, minor cosmetic concerns, and teeth that are sized appropriately for added porcelainPatients seeking more significant shape, length, or color changes that require a slightly thinner tooth surface to achieve the right result
AppearanceNatural and seamless when the case is appropriate for this approachEqually natural. The reduction allows for more versatility in achieving dramatic changes without the veneers appearing bulky
LongevityOften 10 to 20 years with proper care, depending on bite, habits, and maintenanceOften 10 to 20 years with proper care, depending on bite, habits, and maintenance
Anesthesia needed?RarelyOften, for patient comfort during the preparation stage
Are veneers permanent?

Traditional veneers require a controlled amount of enamel removal, which makes the decision permanent. The veneers themselves typically last 10 to 20 years, at which point they can be replaced. No-prep veneers, where no enamel is removed, can in most cases be reversed. Dr. Kim will recommend the right approach during your consultation and explain exactly what the commitment looks like for your specific case.

Do veneers damage your teeth?

For traditional veneers, a small amount of enamel is removed so the veneer sits flush and bonds correctly. At Livewell, Dr. Kim removes only what is necessary, no more. When a no-prep approach is appropriate, nothing is altered at all. The goal in every case is to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible while achieving a result that holds up over time.

Will my veneers look fake?

Veneers should not look fake when they are carefully designed, shaded, and shaped around your natural smile. Every veneer is matched to the exact translucency, surface texture, and shade of your natural teeth by an elite ceramist. The result is meant to look like your teeth, improved, not like dental work. Most patients find that no one notices unless they choose to say something.

Can veneers fix crooked teeth without braces?

In cases of mild misalignment, veneers can correct the appearance of slight spacing, unevenness, or short teeth without orthodontic treatment. For more significant alignment issues, straightening first often leads to a more conservative and longer-lasting veneer result. Dr. Kim will tell you during your consultation which path fits your situation.

What is the difference between Perfect 1, Magic 4, and Social 10?

These are the three veneer scopes available at Livewell, each defined by how many teeth are involved. Perfect 1 is a single restoration, whether a veneer, crown, or bonding, crafted to disappear seamlessly into your existing smile. Magic 4 covers your four front teeth, the zone most visible when you speak or smile. Social 10 treats all ten upper teeth, the full frame of your smile from any angle. The right scope depends on your goals and your starting point, which is determined at your consultation.

How long does getting veneers take?

A typical case at Livewell takes three to six weeks from your design appointment to final placement. The first visit covers evaluation and design. A second visit handles preparation while your veneers are being handcrafted. Final placement and refinement complete the process. If your case includes gum work or other preparatory steps, the timeline extends accordingly. You will know the full schedule before anything begins.

Can I get veneers if I grind my teeth?

Grinding does not disqualify you from veneers, but it does need to be addressed before and after treatment. Uncontrolled grinding puts veneers at risk of chipping or failing early. At Livewell, every case begins with a bite evaluation. If grinding is a factor, Dr. Kim will discuss how to protect your result long-term before a single veneer is placed.
