Getting Ready for Your First Appointment

We want your first visit to feel organized, useful, and worth your time. Before you arrive, our team will help confirm the details we need so Dr. Chris can focus on understanding your oral health, your concerns, and the right next step.

Before your visit:

Arrive 15 minutes early:
This gives our team time to welcome you, confirm your information, and answer any first-visit questions.
Bring your insurance card and photo ID:
We will review your benefits and help you understand how they may apply to your visit.
Complete your health history forms:
Your medical history, medications, and past dental experiences help us plan care safely and thoughtfully.
Share your main concern:
Whether you are here for a routine exam, a second opinion, pain, cosmetic goals, implants, or a full-mouth plan, tell us what matters most to you.
Expect a comprehensive evaluation:
Your visit may include digital X-rays, photos, scans, gum measurements, bite evaluation, and a conversation with Dr. Chris.
How do I prepare for my first visit?

Complete your forms, bring your photo ID and insurance card, and make a list of any medications, dental concerns, or goals you want to discuss. If you have questions about coverage, you can review our insurance and financing information before your visit.

How long does a new patient exam take?

Most first visits take longer than a routine cleaning because we take time for digital records, a complete exam, and a conversation about your goals. The goal is to understand your oral health clearly before recommending any next steps.

Will I get a cleaning at my first visit?

Sometimes, but not always. If your gums and teeth are healthy enough for a routine cleaning, we may be able to complete it. If you need a deeper type of care or more evaluation first, we will explain why before scheduling the next step.

What if I have dental anxiety?

Tell us before or during your visit. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable, explain each step before it happens, and give you time to ask questions. If anxiety has kept you away from the dentist, we can also discuss sedation dentistry.

Do you take X-rays at the first visit?

Yes, when needed. Digital X-rays help us check for cavities, bone levels, infections, and problems that may not be visible during the exam. We only take the records needed to understand your health and plan your care properly.

What if I am coming in because of pain or a broken tooth?

Let us know when you schedule. If you have pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or another urgent concern, we will focus on helping you understand what is happening and what your options are. You can also visit our dental emergencies page for urgent dental concerns.

What happens after the exam?

Dr. Chris Kim will review what we found, explain what is healthy, what needs attention, and where to start. You will leave with a clearer plan, not pressure to make every decision at once.
